Interactive Lessons
Guided lessons inside a live simulator
Not videos. Each lesson runs in the real simulator: it gives you a task, draws arrows and highlights on the instrument you should be looking at, and watches what you fly. The Next button stays greyed out until you've actually done the step.
The courses
HSI basics
What every needle and bug on the Horizontal Situation Indicator is telling you: the course pointer, the deviation bar, the TO/FROM flag and the heading bug, each one demonstrated on the live instrument.
OBS basics
Set a course with the OBS, read the CDI, and find out what reverse sensing feels like in a place where it costs you nothing.
Holding
Hold entries and the pattern itself, flown step by step with the lesson checking each leg. Pairs with the Holding Pattern Trainer once you want to be graded instead of guided.
How a lesson works
1. Get a task
A short instruction appears next to the relevant instrument: tune this VOR, set this course, centre the bar.
2. Fly it
The simulator keeps running while you work. Annotations on the instruments show you where to look, and controls that aren't part of the step can be locked so you can't wander off.
3. Prove it
The lesson reads the simulator state and only advances when the step is actually done. Quizzes along the way check the theory: multiple choice, numeric answers, and hold entry questions.

Frequently asked questions
What are the interactive lessons?
Step-by-step guided lessons that run inside the live simulator. Each step gives you a task, draws annotations on the instruments, and watches what you fly. The lesson only moves on when you've actually done the step.
What courses are available?
Three at the moment: HSI basics, OBS basics, and holding. Each course is a series of short guided lessons flown in the simulator, and new lessons are added over time.
How do the lessons check my flying?
The lesson reads the simulator state. If the step says centre the CDI, the Next button stays greyed out until the CDI is actually centred. Quizzes along the way check the theory: multiple choice, numeric answers, and hold entry questions.
Are they video lessons?
No. You fly every step yourself on the real instruments. Nothing to sit through, and you can't accidentally learn by nodding along.
Are the lessons free?
The interactive lessons are part of Radio Navigator Pro, by subscription or a fixed-term package. The written study guides are free for everyone, no account needed.
Start with HSI basics
Ten minutes in the first lesson and the HSI stops being a diagram in a book.
